Syng is a Danish youth choir organisation. Since it’s founding, Syng has funded, developed, and supported a large number of events and projects all over Denmark in support of its goal: “Bringing awareness and understanding of the joy of singing to young people between the age of 13 and 30”. In addition to supporting the Pre-Festival and the workshop “Young Voices” at AAVF 2017, Syng is also represented during the festival by their elite choir “Syng Selected”, who not only are one of the six contestants chosen for the AAVF competition for choirs but will be one of the seven groups performing during the Pre-Festival as well.

Anyone is able to attend the Pre-Festival, whether you will be part of the festival or not, and you can buy your ticket for just 75 DKK (regular ticket) or 40 DKK (Students or under 20s). The bar will be open and you’ll experience top-notch vocal concerts with old, as well as new, friends. We hope that you will dive early into the AAVF atmosphere and join the Pre-Festival.

Presenting the groups

In honour of this year’s crossover theme, the Pre-Festival groups will alternate between singing off of one big and one smaller stage in “Ridehuset” where seven high-quality performances will let you enjoy everything from breathtaking pop arrangements over characteristic and closely knit harmonies to exotic tunes. You’ll experience vocal groups and choirs in different constellations with unique arrangements and compositions that will blow you away.

SONO

Enjoy SONO – the winner of the 2009 AAVF competition for choirs. This group has a unique and energetic expression which they have developed and refined over their 25 years as a group. They will take you on a journey through their repertoire with interpretations of songs from pop, rock, and R&B artists.

Maestra

Get ready to experience Maestra, a highly respected girl’s choir from The Music School of Aarhus. The singers are 15-25 years old, and the repertoire consists of songs from all over the world – from modern pop music to Bulgarian and Irish folk music. Maestra sings several concerts every year, performing both in small churches, at big shows, and on live tv.

Ballademagerne

Ballademagerne is ready to blow you away with renditions of Danish popular songs, filled to the brim with all the characteristic sounds as we know them from the world of barbershop music. This popular quartet, with ties to the conservatory of music in Aarhus and Aarhus University, has been performing all over town with its close chords and charm.

Aarhus U

Come and enjoy Aarhus U, a new youth choir with 32 singers between 15 and 25 years, singing a repertoire of both classical and contemporary music inspired by jazz, pop and world music.

LYT

Come and LYT – Danish for ”Listen” – and let yourself be swept away by this choir’s warm-hearted interpretations of modern Scandinavian pop songs. Apart from performing on stage with several Danish artists and touring in both Denmark and Germany, LYT also just released its first EP in celebration of its 25 year anniversary.

Sedjanka

Look forward to checking out Sedjanka, a 20 person woman’s choir who perform Bulgarian folk songs and specialise in using the exotic scales and intonations of that style. Sedjanka has been recognised at other international vocal festivals and has performed in Germany, Sweden, and Bulgaria, as well as in Denmark.

SYNG Selected

When Syng Selected takes the stage you’ll hear 30 of the best young choir singers from all over Denmark perform arrangements of groovy funk, catchy pop and strong ballads. Since this national elite choir was founded in 2014 it has already been recognised as one of the most talented youth choirs in the country, and this year the group is one of the final contestants in the AAVF competition for choirs.
