Jim Daus Hjernøe


Jim Daus Hjernøe is a professor and the principal teacher in innovative rhythmic choir conducting at The Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg. He is head of RAMA Vocal Center Campus Aalborg, which is internationally recognized as the leading European center of innovative rhythmic choir conducting, digital learning, and courses at the very highest level within this field.

Jim Daus Hjernøe has been focusing on pedagogy and vocal art in rhythmic choir music since 2002 and developed the concept The Intelligent Choir. As a conductor, he has been touring internationally with the vocal ensembles VoxNorth and RAMA Voices. Jim has held workshops, seminars, lectures, and courses for singers and conductors throughout Europe.

    On Friday, May 17th, 2024, The Royal Academy of Music (RAMA) hosts a 4-hour symposium from 10AM to 2PM at Godsbanen. The symposium will encompass a masterclass on improvisation with the world famous singer Rhiannon (US), a Vocal Painting masterclass conducted by prof. Jim Daus Hjernge (DK), and a LAB experience delving into the convergence of Rhiannon's musical realm and the VOPA world of Jim Daus Hjernge. The symposium is also an opportunity to meet the other teachers at RAMA Vocal Centre: Malene Rigtrup Madsen (DK), Jesper Holm (DK) and Peder Karlsson (SE). The masterclass ensemble is Musta Lammas (FI) and RAMA Voices. The participants at the symposium will be invited to observe and partly participate. The symposium is aimed at RAMA students, but has a few limited seats open to AAVF festival participants. Tickets for the symposium are only available as an add- on to a festival-pass.     Experience the magic of vocal painting: This workshop will introduce you to one of the latest trends in choral music: Vocal Painting. Together, we will delve into short rhythmic arrangements and learn to create musical moments using the unique sign language that Jim himself has developed. This workshop will not only enhance your creativity skills but also provide you with a new understanding of making music collectively in the moment. We look forward to welcoming you to this unique and dynamic workshop! Workshop 1: Beginners level Workshop 2: Advanced level This workshop is presented in collaboration with RAMA Vocal Center.
