Twäng! is an a cappella pop choir from Freiburg, Germany. Founded by young singers in 2014 with the goal of creating an ambitious but fun choir devoted to contemporary modern a cappella pop. Since then the choir has grown to a family-like group of 40 non-professional but experienced singers with a unique repertoire of songs, arranged solely for our eight-voice setup mostly by our conductor Adrian Goldner. On stage, we love to display our passion for singing together, which, underlined by choreographies, through rich sound and diverse arrangements, creates a spark which carries over to the audience. (Sometimes literally, as we are known for our love of glitter in our outfits and make up).
We’re regularly working with different coaches to improve our skills and gain new perspectives. One of our latest evolutionary steps was singing with single microphones, which we began in 2019. They allow us to transmit a more direct and powerful sound in our pop performances. You hear the result in our first Album “POP!”, which we released this September.
In 2018 we were awarded a second prize at the German Choir Competition. Usually, we give about 10 concerts a year, mostly in the south-west of Germany, along with performances at the Deutsches Chorfest (2016), the International Chorfestival Baden (2019), Black Forest Voices (2019) as well as concerts with other choirs in Germany. The connection we gain from these events is special to us – but until now, we haven’t had the chance to leave the country.
Our conductor Adrian Goldner has been shaping the choir from its very beginning. He has a degree in jazz piano and jazz singing from the conservatories Freiburg and Trossingen and is currently studying at the Complete Vocal Institute (Copenhagen). He is a professional singer (i.e. a cappella band anders), vocal coach, composer and pianist. In line with Adrian’s studies, we have been working more and more with CVT. Adrian’s arrangements are complex and varied, yet bear his own signature.
In 2021, conductor, beatboxer and singer Julian Knörzer (Unduzo/Jazzchor Freiburg/Acoustic Instinct) joined the team as co-conductor. He studied school music and singing at the Basel Jazz School and the conservatory Freiburg and is now teaching beatboxing and jazz singing at the latter. Currently, he is finishing his masters in Innovative Choir Leading (RAMA Vocal Center/Aalborg).
The choir is usually accompanied by beatboxer Johannes Jäck (anders/Jazzchor Freiburg).
