At Sunday Night you can experience the Sound of Aarhus, The European Capital of Culture 2017. Aarhus Vocal Festival proudly presents a different take on vocal performance in our feature concert on Sunday evening of the festival. Be ready for a surprising and sensual blend of ensemble styles, atmospheres, and sounds, when the concert space is transformed as the different ensembles take their turn in the spotlight. Singers and audience will combine in new constellations that challenge and celebrate the vocal medium.The groups represent many different styles of music, group sizes and ages. This concert will hopefully provide the audience with a sense of synergy effect, a melting pot of vocal music of many different kinds. The theme of Aarhus European Capital of Culture is “Rethink”, and we hope to join that theme, presenting an unusual and fantastic mix of vocal music. The line up will be:

For more than 25 years Vocal Line and director Jens Johansen have set new standards for a cappella music, winning numerous international music prizes and gaining a reputation as one of the best vocal ensembles in the world.
Vocal Line has performed with superstars like Bobby McFerrin and The Rolling Stones, travelled all over the world, and they´ve recorded seven studio albums with complex yet catchy arrangements of pop and rock masterpieces.
The Danish vocal group POSTYR gives vocal music a facelift with their five voices, one computer and catchy melodies. The group has become known worldwide for their characteristic and evocative sound, combining five gripping voices with sampled beats and heartfelt songwriting, also making POSTYR’s live performances unprecedented in the international music landscape. POSTYR has won several international prizes and awards, latest POSTYR’s album “Paper Tiger” received an American CARA award for Best European Album in 2016.

RAMA Voices – “Music of the moment”
Spontaneously composed music directed by Jim Daus Hjernøe, featuring RAMA Voices and special guest stars from around the world. During the concert the audience will explore the use of Vocal Painting (VOPA), which is an extensive collection of advanced hand signals designed for vocal music to communicate non-verbally between conductor and singers.
Aarhus Girls Choir consists of 30 singers aged 16-22 years. The choir dates back to the 1940’s, but in 2002 it changed its name and decided to raise its musical ambition. Since then Aarhus Girls Choir has toured most of the world. Aarhus Girls Choir has won an impressive number af prestigious awards. In 2015 they participated in The World Choir Games in Riga, where the girls achieved two gold medals and with a 1st Prize in the category “Female choirs” they became Champions of the World Choir Games. Later the same year Aarhus Pigekor participated in the final of the European Broadcasting Unions international choir competition “Let the Peoples sing” and here they became the overall winner and was given the prestigious Silver Rose Bowl.
Helle Høyer Vedel is the Conductor of Aarhus Girls Choir. She trained at The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus and has served as choir director at the Aarhus School of Music, directing children and youth choirs as well as teaching music students ear training.
The story of St. Clemens Boys Choir is a story about creating an ambitious choir with space to play, learn and enjoy togetherness. The choir was established in 2003, rehearses in the Cathedral of Aarhus and consists of 45 boys and men between 9 and 60 years of age. An important ambition for the choir is to meet other boys who are singers and therefore they often do joint concerts with other Danish boys choirs. Among others, the choir has collaborated with Danish groups BaSix, Vocal Line, Kaare Norge, Concerto Copenhagen, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and the Danish artist Fallulah.
